Glenda Davenport
Born and raised in Mount Vernon, Glenda Davenport was a winner at The World Famous Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night in April 1993. She has since performed with such jazz luminaries as Bucky Pizzarelli, Houston Person, Benny Golson, and Lou Donaldson.
Glenda has played at the Saratoga Jazz Festival and as an exclusive vocalist with tenor saxophonist Carmen Leggio’s Quartet, as well as at the Binghamton Jazz Festival with the Miles Ahead Jazz Quartet.
She performs regularly at jazz clubs throughout the tri-state area including The Village Gate, Birdland, Iridium, Central Park Boathouse, Ashford & Simpson’s “Sugar Bar”, Saint Peter’s Church, the Red Eye Grill, Cornelia Street Café, Shelly’s, Kitano Jazz Club, Somethin’ Jazz Club and the Metropolitan Room.
Glenda has released two CDs, Sophisticated Lady and More Than You Know. She can also be heard on Harvey Kaiser’s The Kansas City Sound, Jimmy Hill’s Remembering, The Jazz Trio Alive with Glenda Davenport recorded at the Silas Bronson Library, and on bassist Stephen Roane’s Dancin’ in My Bones.
Glenda Davenport’s impact has been described as “a mature, skillful singer with depth, emotion and swing… If you’ve seen her once, you must see her again.”
