Hudson Valley Music Club Annual Student Awards Concert
The Hudson Valley Music Club will present a concert by the winners of its annual Student Awards Competition. The 2015 winners are:
Victor Lue, Violinist, is a freshman at Edgemont High School who started playing violin at the age of five and currently studies with Joey Corpus. His past teachers include Thomas Robb, Mark Kushnir (Hoff-Barthelson Music School) and Patty Kopec (Manhattan School of Music Precollege). Victor has won a number of competitions, including the AADGT International Competition in 2011, 2012, and 2015 and performed at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie. In 2012, he received a scholarship to attend the Vianden International Music Festival in Luxembourg, where he studied with James Buswell. Victor has performed in master classes given by Daniel Phillips and David Kim. He enjoys chamber music and attended the Greenwood Music Camp in 2012. In 2013, his regular chamber group was accepted into the Young Ensembles Program at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, received coaching from Nicholas Canellakis and performed in the Rose Studio.
Pianist Reed Peterson is a 15-year-old resident of Mamaroneck, NY. He began studying piano at age four. He is currently enrolled at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School, in Scarsdale, NY, where he studies with Eileen Buck. Reed was awarded first place in the junior division of the prestigious International Stravinsky Piano Competition at the age of nine. He then went on to win third prize in the Ensemble Du Monde Concerto Competition in Manhattan, the top prize in his division, before being awarded the Grand Prix in the Ars Viva Young Artist Concerto Competition, in Tarrytown, NY, where he performed Beethoven’s 1st Piano Concerto with the orchestra, at age 14. He has ranked as a finalist in the Ensemble 212 Concerto Competition, the Queens Symphony Orchestra Competition, and the International Tureck Bach Piano Competition at Lincoln Center. Reed has enjoyed performances at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, and SUNY Purchase, among others, and has performed in master classes with Mei-Ting Sun, Kenneth Cooper, and David Dubal. Reed is a well-rounded student at the Rye Neck High School in Mamaroneck, NY, where he is consistently a high honor roll, AP student, and a competitive soccer player on the school varsity and FC Westchester national training league teams.
The Spector Trio is formed by siblings Emily, Asher and Benjamin Spector who study at the Hoff Barthelson Music School (HBMS) in Scarsdale, and are coached by Dr. Tomoko Uchino. Emily and Asher are sophomores and Benjamin is a freshman at Horace Mann School. Violinist Emily studies with April Johnson, plays with the HBMS Festival Orchestra under Jun Nakabayashi and the Horace Mann Sinfonetta led by Nathan Hetherington. Emily placed Third in the Westchester Orchestra 2014 Concerto Competition. Pianist Asher studies with Oldrich Tepley and has participated in master classes with David Dubal and Ming-Tei Sun at HBMS, Marilyn Hahn at the Summit Music Festival, and Seymour Bernstein at Diller-Quaile. Asher also studies flute with Donna Elaine at HBMS. Benjamin studies cello with Nicole Johnson, has completed master classes with Pamela Devenport, and received coaching from Marc Johnson. All three musicians perform with the Horace Mann Upper Division Orchestra, led by Nathan Hetherington.
Adam Willson, Cellist, currently studies with Frederick Zlotkin at the Hoff Barthelson Music School in New York. Adam participates in chamber music groups at Hoff as well as chamber and orchestral music at Hastings High School. He was a finalist in the Yonkers Philharmonic Concerto Competition in 2013 and performed the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto with the orchestra. In addition, he has played in numerous New York All-State Symphonic and String Orchestras, being awarded first stand on all occasions. Adam spent last summer at Meadowmount School of Music studying with Clive Greensmith, and is planning to continue his musical studies at college next year.hud
