Hudson Chorale Benefit: Westchester Debut of the VC3 Cello Trio
Hudson Chorale is offering music lovers an opportunity to experience the magic of the cello in an intimate setting. On Sunday, March 15, 2015, starting at 3:00 pm, the chorus will be the recipient of a benefit concert at the centrally-located Chappaqua Library. The program will feature the NY-based trio VC3, an exciting new ensemble composed of three cellos, and dedicated to exploring the repertoire, old and new, for this uniquely sonorous combination. The group came together in 2014 when three gifted and experienced professional musicians determined that, together, they could offer a level of depth and excitement that would be unequaled in the world of the three-cello trio.
For their Westchester debut, VC3 has selected an exciting combination of works for cello ranging from an 18th century Bach sonata and 19th century canons by Brahms to 20th century works by Ferdinand de la Tombelle, a French composer whose pieces resemble those of Saint-Saëns and Fauré, and Paul Desenne who spread his compositional net to capture the sounds of the indigenous people of his homeland, Venezuela.
The VC3 trio members, Elizabeth Anderson, Käthe Jarke and Rob La Rue, were all recipients of an outstanding level of professional education and training from their earliest years. All three were students at the Julliard School of Music as well as other renowned music institutions which included the Eastman School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music. All have been recipients of numerous competitive awards, and each is currently on the music faculty of a major teaching institution. Anderson is a winner of the prestigious Naumburg Award, an international cello competition, and La Rue is a first prize winner in the National Society of Arts and Letters Cello Competition. As individual artists, they have all performed extensively in orchestras, ensembles and string quartets. Prior to forming the trio, Anderson and La Rue were both cellists with the New York City Opera orchestra.
In addition to the concert, attendees are invited to enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres and pleasant conversation before and after the musical presentation. Since seating for the concert is limited, reservations in advance of the performance are highly recommended. The event will take place at the Chappaqua Library, 195 South Greeley Avenue, Chappaqua, NY. The suggested tax-deductible donation for attending the fundraiser is $50/person, and all proceeds will be used in support of other professional musicians used by Hudson Chorale during its performance season.
