Creating the Picture Book-Fiction Class
Are you an artist with a character in mind? Is there a story you want to tell? Let two pros, an editorial director and an author-illustrator, help you refine your ideas into a successful picture book. With professional advice from both sides of the desk, you’ll learn how to express your personal vision and appeal to your audience—children and publishing decision-makers. Outlining the essentials of the picture book format, we’ll work with you to determine what’s best suited to your story. We’ll give instruction and individual help as you develop your layout, making sure that the pacing is on target. Art demonstrations and class exercises will help you feel comfortable putting your character(s) into the story environment. The course will feature a lively mix of anecdotes and information based on real-life experiences and study of popular titles. Our goal is to help you develop a dummy and color samples that you can use to present your work for publication.
Note: Bring at least one character sketch and several story ideas to the first class. Please bring your own drawing materials.
