Françoise Gilot: The Tamarind Years
Françoise Gilot: The Tamarind Years will be on view at the Neuberger Museum of Art from February 17 through May 28
French artist Françoise Gilot relies heavily on her intuition and unconscious, drawing upon a rich visual memory to create dynamic compositions with expert color harmonies. Through the utilization of symbols and forms, her work is simultaneously personal and universal, allowing the viewer to explore multiple layers of meaning in a quest for fresh insights. The exhibition focuses on Gilot’s lithographs created during her time spent working with June Wayne and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop throughout the 1970s – highlighting the workshop’s role in rethinking the importance of collaboration, the artistic process, and lithography itself.
Françoise Gilot: The Tamarind Years is organized by the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase College, SUNY and curated by Caitlin Monachino, a Neuberger Curatorial Fellow and graduate student in the Purchase College MA Program in Art History, Criticism, and Theory. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and has interned at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, the George Eastman Museum, the Neuberger Museum of Art and the Katonah Museum of Art.
The Museum is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road in Purchase, N.Y. (Westchester)
