Downtown Music Presents: Chamber Music with the Westchester Philharmonic. Deborah Wong and Steven Beck.

Downtown Music is excited to continue our partnership with the renowned Westchester Philharmonic in the first of four chamber music programs this season, featuring a wonderful roster of artists from the Phil.  On September 22, we hope you’ll join us for a special all-Brahms program with violinist Deborah Wong and pianist Steven Beck.  The artists will perform Brahms’s Sonata No.1 in G Major, Opus 78; Six Pieces for Piano, Opus 118; and Four Hungarian Dances, Nos. 17-20.

Juilliard graduate Deborah Wong is a long-time member of the Westchester Philharmonic violin section, frequently occupying the assistant concertmaster or Principal 2nd chairs.As a soloist, she has performed with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Brattleboro Bach Festival Orchestra, the Stony Brook Symphony, the North Country Chamber Players, the Civic Orchestra of New Haven, the American Chamber Orchestra and the Greater Bridgeport Symphony. As a chamber musician she is a member of the Atlantic String Quartet and the Hawthorne Piano Trio. With Adam Grabois, her duo cello partner, she has recorded Martinu, Kodaly, and Ravel Duos on Mr. Grabois’ own label, Reflex Editions.

Steven Beck insured his place in Westchester Philharmonic history when, in December 2016, he stepped in at the last moment to replace an ailing pianist to perform the famed third movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 – with no rehearsal – and brought down the house. He continues to garner acclaim for his performances and recordings worldwide. Praised by the New Yorker as “one of the city’s finest young pianists,” a recent New York concert by Mr. Beck was described as “exemplary” and “deeply satisfying” by Anthony Tommasini in The New York Times.
