Dr. Logan McBride will present an overview of the history of non-white (and in particular Black) officers at Sing Sing Prison and other New York state correctional facilities. Her talk will call attention to the changing “racial geography” of correctional officers in the 1960s, a trend that accelerated in the 1970s after the Attica Prison Uprising in 1971. Gerard Garvin, a retired correction officer at New York state facilities in the 1960s and 1970s, will participate in the panel discussion.

Dr. McBride is the Distinguished Lecturer at Macaulay Honors College, CUNY and Co-Researcher on the Women Transcending Oral History Research Project, The Center for Justice at Columbia University.
