Simile Craft Class with Rachel Hadas (in-person at HVWC)

From Homer to A.E. Stallings, similes play a vital role in making poetry precise, memorable, and vivid. Sometimes, though similes are as much about unlikeness as likeness – as a Homeric scholar has observed, similes can go off the rails.  Let’s dip into a few examples of this familiar but underrated poetic tool and see what we find.
