Rachel Eliza Griffiths Scholars Poetry Workshop for High Schoolers with Nathan McClain (via Zoom)


The participants of the Rachel Eliza Griffiths Scholarship program will, alongside poet Nathan McClain, read and study poems that explore myth, origin, protest, praise, and place, among other subjects. Each week, scholars will draft a new poem, and participants will have at least one opportunity to share and receive workshop feedback on their work. Participants should expect to read work by Kimiko Hahn, Toi Derricotte, Jericho Brown, and Rachel Eliza Griffiths, among others.

This 4-week scholarship program is available to all high school writers of color, and will be capped at 10 students. The class will meet for 4 Wednesdays, 1-3 PM ET via Zoom, July 10 – July. 31.

Nathan McClain is the author of Scale (Four Way Books, 2017) and Previously Owned (Four Way Books, 2022), a recipient of fellowships from The Frost Place, Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and a graduate of the M.F.A. Program for Writers at Warren Wilson.  A Cave Canem fellow, his poems and prose have recently appeared or are forthcoming in Poetry Northwest, Green Mountains Review, Zocalo Public Square, The Critical Flame, and On The Seawall, among others.  He teaches at Hampshire College and serves as Poetry Editor for The Massachusetts Review.
