Art Exhibition: “It’s Time”

“It’s Time”

Show dates: June 18 – July 14

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 22, 4-8 p.m.

Chroma Fine Art Gallery is honored to present “It’s Time”, a solo exhibition devoted to the work of V.L. Cox. The exhibition showcases an array of the thought- provoking, mixed-media sculptures for which the artist is known.

Cox uses her art as a vehicle to promote social justice. She mines the complex narratives of American history to probe issues of racism, homophobia, misogyny, and religious opportunism. By blending personal experience with historical facts and national events, she invites viewers to consider how our shared past shapes the present and informs the future. Some of the works on display are from Cox’s End Hate Project, for which the artist is arguably best known. In a statement about End Hate, Cox says she hopes the work, “engages viewers responsibly in a dialogue no matter how uncomfortable.” The gravity and unflinching directness of Cox’s sculptures is palpable when experienced in person, and Chroma provides the perfect venue to do so.

“In light of the upcoming presidential election, it is important to remind people of our country’s history.” explains curator Rita Baunok. “The actions we take now will have a direct impact of the future. We need to collectively decide – where do we want to go?”

It’s Time runs from June 18 through July 14. The opening reception, scheduled to coincide with the Katonah Art Walk, will be held on Saturday, June 22 from 4:00 – 8:00pm. All are invited to attend.
