Memoir Writing Workshop for Everyone with Rachel A. Levine (via Zoom)

This 6-week, 2-hr course via Zoom meets on Thursdays, 1-3PM ET, beginning July 11, and ending August 15.

Many of us want to share our story.  Sometimes it’s just for our family, sometimes it’s for the world.

Whatever your reason, writing memoir can be an exciting, fun, sometimes transformative experience.

Whether you have started something, have something in mind, or don’t know what you want to write about, this workshop is sure to be helpful.

• I teach as a writer who has learned the “tricks of the trade,” not as a school teacher.
• Beginner and advanced writers will get valuable feedback from the group, and a close reading and review from me.
• My goal is to help you achieve what you want to.
• This is a casual, supportive workshop in which the craft is taught using participants’ works.
• No reading or writing is done in workshop.  You write on your own time, with no pressure, and the work is circulated in advance so we can all have time to read it and give you the best feedback possible.
• You are not required to present anything if you don’t want to.
• If you don’t feel ready to share your work with the group, you may share it with me alone.  I am glad to offer personal feedback.

The year Rachel A. Levine was born Albert Einstein died and Disneyland opened.  This might be coincidence or, it might explain why the silly and serious have always collided in her work. She began writing poetry at age eleven and had a chapbook published in her twenties.  Levine attended the MFA program in fiction at Brooklyn College where she studied with Jonathan Baumbach and Peter Spielberg. Her first novel, Brooklyn Valentine, won first prize in the 2011 “IPPY” (Independent Publishers) award for popular fiction. Her short story, “Ain’t No Word But Lonely” won first prize in the 2019 International Short Story Project Contest. Her play, Downstairs, Front was chosen for the 2019 NYC Fresh Fruit Festival. It was also a finalist in the 2023 International Carlo Annoni Playwriting Contest. She has taught fiction and memoir to adults for the last 20 years.  The only thing she finds more fun than writing is working with others and having the privilege to hear their stories.
