Meeting of the Masters – Bach & Mozart


Westchester Oratorio Society, Artistic Director, Benjamin Niemczyk, opens its 22nd season with a concert entitled, “Meeting of the Masters,” at Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco, The performance will feature choral masterpieces by two of the great composers J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart with the chorus accompanied by the WOS Baroque Ensemble. Soloists will be Catherine Swindle, soprano, Emily Geller, contralto, Andrew Surrena, tenor and Joey S. Rodriquez, bass.

In praising WOS’s Baroque Ensemble and the evening’s soloists, Mr.Niemczyk, who lives in Brooklyn, stressed, “this will be an historically informed performance,” adding, “we are fortunate with WOS’s proximity to New York City, each musician comes from the wealth of young Baroque performers living and working in our area.”  Featured works will be Bach’s “Sanctus” BWV 238 and cantatas BWV 62 “Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland” and BWV 36 “Schwingt freudig euch empor” as well as Mozart’s “Reginal Coeli,” KV 276 and “Veni Sancte Spiritus,” KV 47.

The group’s 2019-2020 Season, it’s 13th under the direction of Mr. Niemczyk, continues with a return to St. Luke’s Church in Somers for a “Scratch” “Messiah” (sing-along) on Sunday, December 8 at 3 pm. This spring the group which rehearses on Tuesday evenings in Katonah NY will present Bach’s “Mass in B minor” on Sunday afternoon May 3.
