Tuesday, July 23, 7 PM ET via Zoom: Marketing a Best Seller: Techniques to Build an Audience and Engage Readers with Matt Schweitzer

In this course, students will go behind the scenes with a publishing executive and learn best practices and techniques to drive discoverability for books. Build and engage an audience with lessons about how to develop a social media strategy, analyze a competitive marketplace, develop an advertising strategy, and draft keynotes, selling copy, and taglines. Students will receive resources to continue workshopping these techniques beyond the course.

Matt Schweitzer is Director, Content Marketing Strategy at Disney Publishing, leading the global marketing team across Hyperion, Rick Riordan Presents, Freedom Fire, Andscape, Marvel Press, Lucasfilm Publishing, Disney Press, and National Geographic publishing.

He is the former SVP of Marketing at HMH Books & Media, where he oversaw the marketing department developing brand marketing campaigns for general fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books, including Little Blue Truck, J.R.R. Tolkien, Whole30, and dozens of NYT Best Sellers. He was also Senior Director, Marketing at HarperCollins Children’s Books (Fancy Nancy, Pete the Cat, Pinkalicious, Shel Silverstein), and he has experience in global brand licensing with American Greetings (Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears) and Ragdoll (Teletubbies).

Matt founded Brandstory Studio, a consulting agency to develop marketing support for authors, artists, and small businesses. He graduated from Fordham University (MBA) and University at Buffalo (B.A. Literature/B.S. Marketing). He currently teaches at New York University, Center for Publishi (Management and Leadership in Transitional Times and From Idea to Empire: Business Development), Emerson College (Marketing a Best Seller), and Hofstra University (Children’s and YA Publishing and Book Promotion.)
