Kindred Worlds: A Conversation with Priscila and Alvin Hudgins

Collectors Priscila and Alvin Hudgins III, curator Alyssa Alexander, and featured artists Laurena Finéus and Raelis Vasquez discuss Kindred Worlds: The Priscila and Alvin Hudgins Collection. Yonkers residents and long-time art enthusiasts, the Hudgins have amassed an impressive collection of work by contemporary artists of primarily African descent over the last decade. The conversation will cover their collector beginnings, what it means to collect Black art in the current market, their artist residency in Cartagena, Colombia, and more.

Alyssa Alexander is an independent curator and arts administrator living and working in Brooklyn, New York. She was recently awarded the inaugural Feminist Futures Curatorial Fellowship by Project For Empty Space and is working on an upcoming exhibition centering gender equity, queer liberation, and body freedom for every body.

Priscila and Alvin Hudgins III are both native New Yorkers, now based in Yonkers, NY. They hope that by sharing their collection, they can inspire other young Black and Latinx families to see themselves in the role of collectors and stewards and also, quite literally, see familiar faces in artworks that represent the beauty and diversity of the Americas.
