Karwaan, a global journey of music

India Center of Westchester, with more than 500 members across the Tri-State area, presents Karwaan, a global journey of music.(Caravan) where companies of travelers or pilgrims traveled on a long journey through lands and spread their music and culture. This event highlights the journey of music that has been preserved for centuries in India and spread around the world. The show will be held at the Irvington Town Hall Theatre on Sunday, Sept 29, 2019 at 4pm.

The India Center is bringing Sangeet Villas founders Pandit Kinner Seen and Payal Seen to Westchester to further the musical journey which started in the middle-east, spread to India and then evolved into a global passion.  Accompanied by their students, including India Center’s music instrumental teacher Amita Ajmera, the performance will consist of Hindustani vocal and instruments from India fused with other countries like Guyana, Trinidad and Western. This event is open to all lovers of music no matter the ethnicity and preference, there will be something for all.

Pt.Kinnar Seen is a brilliant musician from Punjab teaching Tabla, Sitar and Hindustani Vocal to hundreds of students every year in Queens and Long Island. Kinnar Seen has performed with Beatles Magical Orchestra in 2005 conducted by David Amram and performed at the residence of John Lennon on his request.  Kinaar Seen has given numerous lectures and demonstrations at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Princeton University, Brown University, State University of New York in Stony Brook and the Julliard School of Music. In his role as a guru (teacher), he continues to inspire his shishiyas (students) to experience the joy of music advancing further to higher skill levels. His students are a melting pot of various cultures, all-endeavoring to learn the language of Indian music which has brought them all together to work towards a common passion – to share the art and culture globally fusing it in our daily lives.

The India Center of Westchester, located at 174 Brady Avenue, Hawthorne NY, provides a venue to celebrate all occasions of significance to the community, music, dance, art, spiritual, intellectual, creative and many Southeast Asian languages for children and adults, social.  In addition, it holds and participates in cultural activities that span the spectrum of India’s diversity bringing contemporary events like Bollywood Gharana, Riyaaz Qawwali, Romeo and Juliet in Kathak traditional Indian dance form, Parampara, an evening of various traditional Indian music and dance forms,  Wa No Kakehashi,Bridge of understanding from Japan, with Japanese students learning Indian traditional Kathak dance in Japan and now Karwaan. The purpose of the program is to give exposure to music not only limited to students who are learning but to the tristate area community.
