Surrounded by John Shearer’s deeply moving photographs of the civil rights movement and the early days of mass incarceration in the United States, we sit down with Brian Fischer, former Commissioner of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and Dennis Parker, Executive Director of the National Center for Law and Economic Justice, for a conversation about the country’s mood, the Attica prison uprising, and the enduring pursuit of one’s humanity in our justice system.
