Harrison Public Library presents “Art by S.L. Rossi”

Exhibition is on display August 3, 2024 to August 29, 2024.
Gallery is open to the public during regular library hours.

Artist’s Statement:

My approach to art is to see satisfied faces. Capturing subjects in fine detail, pleasing to the eye and thought provoking. Each piece I create tells a story of human emotions, consisting of happiness, sorrow, fear, strength, power and beauty.

Through the various mixed media methods I use, I strive to bring out the best of everything in great detail. In some pieces I create a visual narrative for each piece.

Most of my pieces are created using pen and ink, incorporating the stippling method. The stippling method is a series of different sized dots arranged to give fine detail. As of late I have added colored pens and colored pencils to create each piece.

The materials I use consist mostly of pen and ink and colored pencils, applied to Strathmore Bristol paper Series 300. The pens consist of Copic Multiliner Pens, Copic Multiliner SP Pens, Pigma Micron Pens and Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils.

The time it takes to complete each piece varies, sometimes weeks at a time. I start with a rough sketch in pencil and then apply the ink and or colored pencil.

I strive on fine detail which I find very satisfying. I don’t dwell on the time it takes to finish a piece, just the end result.

About the Artist:

Steven L. Rossi is a self-taught artist working with pen and ink using the stippling method. On occasion he incorporates colored pens and colored pencils. The majority of his drawings are done in black and white. His artwork consists of a variety of subjects that include sports figures, musicians, celebrities, flowers, nature, landscapes, animals and miscellaneous subjects. Some subjects are taken from photos he took or from other people’s photos with their permission. He gives credit for the use of their photos.

Steven was commissioned over the years by a good friend of his to draw several illustrations for the three books he wrote. It was quite an honor.
In 2018, he gifted the Village of Port Chester, NY with three framed pieces of artwork to commemorate the 150th birthday of the Village. They are currently on display at Village Hall.

Over the years Steven has participated in several Arts Festivals which include the following:

Art10573 sponsored by The Port Chester Council for the Arts.
Hops on the Hudson Modern Makers Market in Cold Spring, NY. Fall Foliage Art Festival in Highland Falls, NY
ArtsFest Artisan Market sponsored by The New Rochelle Council for the Arts.

This year he is planning on participating in the Newtown, CT Arts Festival in mid-September.
