Freeing You from Yourself: A New Approach to Your New Poems with Suzanne Cleary (via Zoom)

Do you write poems only when you feel strong emotions? Would you like to discover another route into writing new poems? This generative poetry workshop provides model poems and writing prompts designed to open you to the wide world beyond the strictly “I”-based first-person poem. We’ll read a variety of poems that lean on fact, rather than on emotion, and then you’ll explore your own store of knowledge–rich material you may have overlooked as sources for poetry. Spoiler Alert: The poem of fact has a way of leading you deep into your imagination, and deeper into emotion than you might imagine.

NB: This class will be taught on Zoom (Saturday, September 14, 12:30-4:30 PM ET) and will be capped at 15 students. Registrants will receive the Zoom link to the email address they use to register. It will arrive immediately after registration so please check your spam folder if you do not receive it. It will also be sent the day before class as a reminder. Please review the course policies page before registering for any classes. Please email misty@writerscenter.org with any questions.

All HVWC scholarship applications will be available on May 1 and will be due on May 15 for all summer/fall 2024 classes.
