Steffi Nossen School of Dance | A Virtual Evening of Dance Films

Join Choreographer and Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation Artistic Director Jessica DiMauro Marks in an evening of dance films choreographed during the Covid-19 pandemic by five New York choreographers as a response to the pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement. Each film will be followed by a Q&A led by Ms. DiMauro Marks, an opportunity for Zoom audience members to chat with the choreographers.

Participating choreographers include Ms. DeMauro Marks who will premiere a work choreographed on the Steffi Nossen Dance Company addressing the experience of being a young woman: the source of her power, threats to her livelihood, and the physical expression of the contrasting elements of her nature.

Alison Cook Beatty will show “Central Park Field #4″”choreographed during the  Pandemic and practicing 6-foot distance between dancers at all times to the driving music of Philip Glass.  She explained, “Across the park from the state set -up Covid field hospital  I saw a “Field of Dreams’” A baseball field,  an empty safe space. Dance heals the human spirit, and in these times, the Arts are more necessary than ever. The driving music of Philip Glass, the architecture of the diamond itself, inspired me to choreograph this dance.

Gierre Godley, Artistic Director of Project 44,  will share an excerpt of Brothers and Sons, a collaborative effort born from conversations with 8 black back men as a response to recent experiences and Black Lives Matter. The work was created in association with Queensborough Community College and CUNY Dance Initiative.  A link to the full work will be provided to audience member for post-performance viewing.

Also to be presented will be “state of grace”, a collaboration by Proteo Media + Performance choreographer Kathleen Kelly and Christian Von Howard of VON HOWARD PROJECT,  and a fifth work to be announced.
