American Moments: Photographs by John Shearer
Opening Reception for American Moments: Photographs by John Shearer. This five-part symphony of images tells the story of five movements that defined a turbulent period in American history: the 1963-1971, with the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., to the political unrest and prison riot at the Attica prison. Shearer’s sharp insightful photographs, many of which were carried in the major media of the time, capture the anger, economic inequality, and cultural manifestations of the era’s social unrest. Support for this project is provided by the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art and the Purchase College Foundation.
