Adventures in Handbuilding with Austin Coudriet


In this hands-on workshop, Austin Coudriet will cover foundational handbuilding skills to make a vessel and help students develop the confidence to tackle complex forms and take their handbuilding to the next level.

Topics include:

  • Forming slabs at various states

  • Rolling even coils

  • Utilizing different pinching techniques to achieve unique forms

  • Combining handbuilt objects into complex forms

Austin Coudriet was a 2019-2021 resident artist at the Clay Art Center in Portchester, NY. There he was able to pursue his passions of being both a studio artist and instructor. In 2019 he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts with a dual emphasis in sculpture and ceramics from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. As an artist, Austin is interested in creating sculptural pots and functional sculptures bridging the gap between the two categories. In his classes, he emphasizes foundational skills offering new methods and strategies to core processes. It is his personal mission to help each student create pieces they are both excited and challenged by. He is currently a resident at The Clay Studio of Missoula, Montana.
