WCT Presents Play In the Box

Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) Introduces

Play-in-the-Box March 30 – Readings of Three Original One-Act Plays

New Initiative Expands the Company’s Play Development Process

Ossining, NY – On Friday, March 30, at 8 pm, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will introduce the first in a new series called Play-in-the-Box that expands the theater company’s commitment to the play development process. Play-in-the-Box offers WCT member playwrights an opportunity to present their never before seen plays, of any length, before an audience. The plays, all self-produced by the playwrights featuring actors and directors of their choice, will range from readings to fully staged performances. Following each play, the audience will be asked to become part of the creative process through talk-backs that can help the playwright identify what works and what doesn’t in the play. Play-in-the-Box will be held one Friday evening each month at the company’s black box performance space at 23 Water St. in Ossining,

“WCT’s mission is to help playwrights through the development process which is best achieved by seeing the play live on stage rather than lying static on the page. It also extends our commitment to collaboration as the audience will be an integral part of the magic,” says WCT Executive Producer Karina Ramsey. “We’re asking the community to experience theater not as it’s usually viewed, in a finished, polished state, but at virtually the moment of conception, at the raw beginnings of its evolution.”

Because WCT is placing no filters or restrictions upon the writers, audience discretion is advised. Material may include ideas/concepts/language that could be considered offensive.

The trio of plays scheduled for March 30 will all be rehearsed readings. They are:

Three Minutes Apart by Jane Ann Valentine, performed by Anne Glickman and Sandy Rooney: twin sisters Celina and Gabriella face off and examine their lives and relationship while meeting to celebrate their 39th birthdays; Jesus Doesn’t Live Here Anymore by Pat O’Neill featuring Tim Harbolic and Jeff Callan: Rock’n’Roll doesn’t die, it just goes to jail as two aging former rock stars meet up for the first time in 10 years in a jail cell and the long buried dead are dredged back up for one more ballad; Mun by Matt Silver with Dan Palevic and Denis McNamara: Mun is at stake when a man commits an act of infidelity.

There will be a 10-minute intermission.

Admission is a suggested donation of $5 at the door; no reservations will be taken for Play-in-the-Box.
