The Poet You Can Be: A Poetry Workshop for Beginners and Others with Amy Holman via Zoom

Our Writers Center community and neighbors have requested an Introduction to Poetry Writing workshop, and here is the next one in our series! This workshop invites those new to writing poetry and those returning to their love of it, to learn what makes a poem happen, from economy of language to clarity of imagery, its rhythms and structures, as well as the poet’s emotions, experiences, and ideas. We will read through poems that employ different approaches and techniques, and students will write to prompts in class and as homework. You should feel free to explore and experiment, and encourage your classmates.

Amy Holman is a poet and literary consultant. She is the author of the collection, Wrens Fly Through This Opened Window (Somondoco Press), and the prize winning chapbook, Wait for Me, I’m Gone (Dream Horse Press). She’s had poetry or essays published in anthologies addressing pantyhose, the NYC subway, beach houses, endangered animals, and TV shows, as well as a poem chosen for the Best American Poetry. Poems are in The Night Heron Barks, The Chiron Review, Gargoyle, and BigCityLit. She is one of the poetry editors of The Westchester Review, and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
