“RITES OF PASSAGE” COLLAGES AND SMALL 3D WALL SCULPTURE BY DEBRA FRIEDKIN
Meet the artist June 8 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Debra Friedkin works in various media, including collage, painting, and sculpture. The characters and settings are iconic and range from prehistoric to futuristic – strange and fabulous creatures and animals, fossilized dinosaurs, mythical unicorns, abstract modern figures (matador and bull), aliens and humans or just body parts, as well as surrealistic creations. She strives to elicit a visceral reaction from the viewer. As with all art, Debra’s work can be interpreted on many levels. However, one does not need to apply a formula or look for hidden symbolism to understand it. It is apparent, in your face. Some of it may not be pretty but it makes a point, sometimes commenting on societal values, often spiritually-informed.
