NEU TO Do for Kids: Create a Plein Air Landscape inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe
A project inspired by the work of abstract artist Georgia O’Keeffe
In this week’s NEU To Do for Kids project, young artists will explore the use of color, shape and form to create a Plein Air landscape painting or drawing that is based on what they can see close up and far away in their own outdoor environment.
“Plein Air” art is painting outside, in nature, recreating the environment you are in. Also known as “experience” painting or drawing, this technique dates back many centuries and is derived from the desire to capture light and shadows as they change.
In the project worksheet, students will also learn more about the abstract artist Georgia O’Keefe, who is best known for her vast portfolio of open sky depictions, sweeping landscapes, floral plumes, and dessert sands.
