Natyamudra Classical Indian Dance (Amphitheater 2022)
Bharatanatyam is an ancient and most popular classical dance of India, reflecting the culture of India at its best, and considered an artistic form of yoga that activates all the senses. It is a very structured and precise dance with a huge repertoire of hand movements used to convey story and expression. Bharatanatyam is well known for its rhythmic, vigorous footwork, crisp movements and sculpture-like poses, diverse upper body movements, and theatrical facial expressions. Liza Joseph, Director of the Natyamudra School of Dance based in Westchester, and a group of her students will perform various pieces from the Bharatanatyam repertory followed by an interactive session inviting the audience to explore some basic movements of this dance style, various hand gestures (mudras), and facial expressions that are unique to Indian classical dance styles.
Doors open at 7:30pm. No reservations required. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Free parking is available.
