Local Writers Series Presents: A Reading with Heller Levinson and Mary Makofske (in person at HVWC)


Join us in person at the Hudson Valley Writers Center as we welcome Heller Levinson and Mary Makofske as they read from their most recent books. Books will be available for purchase on site.

Heller Levinson has published over a dozen books and his work has appeared in over a hundred journals. His publication, Smelling Mary (Howling Dog Press, 2008), was nominated for both the Pulitzer Prize and the Griffin Prize. His most recent books are Query Caboodle Shift Gristle (Black Widow Press, 2023).

Mary Makofske’s latest books are No Angels (Kelsay, 2023),The Gambler’s Daughter (chapbook, The Orchard Street Press, 2022); World Enough, and Time (Kelsay, 2017); and Traction (Ashland, 2011), winner of the Richard Snyder Prize. Her poems have appeared in more than 70 journals including Poetry, Poetry East, American Journal of Poetry, Southern Poetry Review, Comstock Review, Mississippi Review, North American Review, Valparaiso Poetry Review and in 20 anthologies. She has received first prizes in poetry from Atlanta Review, New Millennium Writings, Littoral Press Broadside Contest, Lullwater Review, Spoon River Poetry Review, Quiet Diamonds, The Ledge, and Cumberland Poetry Review. www.marymakofske.com
