“GROWING UP BRONX” PAINTINGS BY CONNIE MANNA

Harrison Council for the Arts presents “Growing up Bronx” paintings by Connie Manna at the Harrison Public Library, Halperin Building, 2 Bruce Avenue, Harrison, NY on view June 4-30; meet the artist June 9 from 2 to 4pm.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My paintings hearken back to a nostalgic era. Inspiration springs from observing the world around me and injecting each scene with a sense of memory – both personal and collective. Light and dark areas define the space and the subject, but also convey a distinct mood in the style of Edward Hopper and Rene Magritte.

Connie Manna was born and raised in New York, earning her BFA from the School of Visual Arts, where she was inspired and influenced by the illustrators and painters, Marshall Arisman, Gil Stone, Carl Titolo and Mary Heilmann.

As a freelance illustrator, she has done work for medical magazines, advertising agencies, book publishers, general interest magazines and computer software companies. She has had several solo shows and has participated in several group exhibitions in New York and the tri-state area, as well as in Washington DC. Currently based in Stratford, Connie is a Continuing Education Art Instructor, teaching a course of her own creation called “Paint a Masterpiece a Day” for the Stratford Board of Education and has taught this same course in after school painting classes at the Guilford Art Center in Guilford, CT.  Many of her original paintings are held in private collections.

The exhibit may be viewed Mondays and Wednesdays 9:30am to 9:00pm; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 9:30am to 5:30pm.  For info call the Library 914-835-0324 or see harrisonpl.org.
