“Chords”

The new exhibition at Chroma Fine Art Gallery, titled Chords, is on view now through December 8. This show features landscape paintings by Catherine Caulfield Russell, John Plunkett, Sergey Stepanenko, and Michael Summers. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception scheduled for Saturday, November 9th, from 3 to 7pm.

“This is Chroma’s first exhibition wholly devoted to landscapes,” says curator Rita Baunok. “I got the idea thinking about how music and nature both feature rhythms. In “Chords,” I bring together four artists whose approaches are unique, but whose works harmonize when viewed together.

Catherine Caulfield Russell often paints her landscapes a plein-air. She appreciates the ever-changing face of nature; and strives not to recreate a scene, but instead to capture the feeling, aura, and mood of a place.

John Plunkett works in a variety of mediums, and creates expressive imagery that moves between abstraction and representation. “I employ an intuitive approach in my work, emphasizing improvisation and process rather than a predetermined subject.” Baunok points to the beach scenes she selected for inclusion, citing their interesting quality.

Sergey Stepanenko brings an abstracted vision to the landscape theme. His signature technique is recognizable for its keen sense of energy and commitment to a high quality of craftsmanship.

Michael Summers, is a plein air painter with nature as primary inspiration. His work embraces the present moment. “Each brushstroke and every nuanced detail serves as an invitation to pause, appreciate the fleeting nature of existence, and find solace in the splendor of nature.”
