Leonard Hindell, former bassoonist for 33 years with the New York Philharmonic, will join young artists and student musicians for The Symphony of Westchester’s annual Family Concert on Sun., Feb. 12, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Iona College in New Rochelle.
In addition to Hindell’s performance of Antonio Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concerto in E minor, F.VIII, No.6, the concert will include the winner of the Symphony’s annual Young Artist Competition. The winner, a Westchester conservatory student chosen by audition, will perform a movement of a concerto from the Baroque or Classical music period.
The Symphony will also perform pieces written by students in the Composers of the Future program, a 16-year-old collaboration with New Rochelle’s Songcatchers after-school program.
This concert, at Iona’s Christopher J. Murphy Auditorium, 715 North Ave., is suitable for children ages 4 and older. Ticket prices are $15 general admission and $5 for all students. The Symphony of Westchester concludes its 20th concert season at Iona on Sat., May 6, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. with violinist Tessa Lark in an All-Romantic program.
