The Last Mentsch
A provocative meditation on the making and meaning of Jewish identity, The Last Mentschfollows Auschwitz survivor Marcus Schwartz, a self-described “normal” German with no Jewish ties, who as an old man suddenly realizes that he wishes to be buried in a Jewish cemetery. For proof of the heritage he’s spent a lifetime denying, he must return to his hometown in Hungary and dig up evidence of his birth.
Q&A April 13, 7:30: Arie Bucheister and Rabbi Andrew Baker with RECEPTION. Arie Bucheister is Chief of Staff of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany. Rabbi Andrew Baker is AJC’s Director of International Jewish Affairs.
