Oscar Winner: Best Documentary Short!

This program was such a knockout at the Westchester Jewish Film Festival 2014 that we were determined to bring it back in its entirety. Alice Herz-Sommer, who passed away in Feb. at 110, was the world’s oldest living Holocaust survivor. Once a renowned concert pianist throughout Central Europe, she credited the Chopin études she played at the Theresienstadt concentration camp with saving her life.

WITH A LIVE PERFORMANCE Chopin études performed by Ukrainian pianist Irena Portenko. After her acclaimed debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, which featured a performance of Chopin’s études, the Times reported that “Ms. Portenko pulled off a feat that puts her in a select company.”
