The Japanese Dog
Opening Night with reception! In this understated drama about family reconciliation, Romania’s greatest actor, Victor Rebengiuc (Forest of the Hanged, Niki and Flo) plays Costache, a man who has lost his wife, his house, and everything he owned in a flood. The unexpected return of his son, Ticu, from Japan forces the men to become a family again. Costache becomes a real grandfather to his seven- year-old grandson, while Ticu corrects mistakes from the past. “A Yasujiro Ozu drama done in the Romanian style” (Slant Magazine), this New Directors/New Films selection represents Romania in the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar race. Join us for a reception following the screening.
