Steffi Nossen 86th Anniversary Dance Concert

On the occasion of the Steffi Nossen School of Dance’s 86th anniversary we celebrate the legacy, lineage and longevity of the school, curriculum, and community.

A native of Berlin, Steffi Nossen was influenced by modern dance pioneers Mary Wigman and Rudolph von Laban which she eagerly embraced made her passion sharing  the love of dance and movement through education to as many as she could. In 1935, Steffi came to the United States, settled in Larchmont, and established the dance school two years later, built upon her conviction that the experience of dance should be a part of every person’s life.

Steffi Nossen made significant contributions to the rich history of American modern dance and her legacy continues to positively influence the art form. Her carefully developed curriculum has informed the creative and artistic development of countless dancers over the generations, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in dance. More than 40 years after Steffi’s death, the school continues to carry on her educational vision, unique teaching method and love for the community.

We celebrate our unique ‘home’ where each person feels seen and heard for who they are while learning how to express themselves through movement, build confidence, artistry and strength and finding the true moments in a young dancer’s life to give them an opportunity to feel free and powerful.

Our pre-professional dancers in our Master Class program and Steffi Nossen Dance Company will present choreography by alumnae Annie Doss and Artistic Director, Jessica DiMauro Marks along with pieces by esteemed choreographers Michael Foley, Janice Rosario, Julia Burrer and Olivia Passarelli. They will be joined by an alumnae duet choreographed and performed by Jocelyn Lewis and Sarah Dames and a demonstration by our Core Modern dancers, ages 5-12 showcasing the Steffi method and Core Modern Curriculum. Created by our founder, Steffi Nossen, this cohesive curriculum encourages collaboration and creativity, and has been passed down through generations of dancers and teachers and is still used in our classes today.

We hope you will join us in this demonstration of love, dedication and artistry.
