Salzburg Marionette Theater- Debussy’s The Toy Box
This Austrian company, over 100 years old, imparts a virtuosic artistry to an ancient art form. Considered to be “a mesmerizing spectacle” (The New York Times), Debussy’s rarely-heard children’s ballet The Toy Box, dedicated to his daughter. It was not premièred until after the composer’s death. It recalls an innocent world. Imitations of music-box tunes, parodies of opera and folk melodies, plus a reference to Golliwog’s Cakewalk accompany the ever so charming characters experiencing life and love…all in a toy box. Live Piano accompaniment by Orion Weiss. (Suitable for all ages!)
