NSQG Lecture – David Hornung – The Handmade Life: Color in Traditional & Contempory Quilts

Brief Bio:  A practicing artist for over 50 years, David’s work has long been informed by his love of traditional domestic craft. Although primarily a painter, he worked for a time as a textile designer and, between 1979 and ’85, made over 20 quilts. He received the “Award of Excellence” at the second Quilt National in 1981. He is also the author of Color: A Workshop for Artists and Designers (Laurence King Pub Ltd.), a textbook that has been translated into six languages and is used in art schools and private studios around the world. David has held professorships at Indiana University, Skidmore College, The Rhode Island School of Design and Adelphi University from which he retired in 2020.  In 2020 David curated an exhibition of contemporary textile constructions for the International Quilt Museum. His discussion of the work in that show and his reflections on the “art quilt” can be viewed at the following link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXo1XOM-lbI
