Organization Overview

Our diverse membership of traditional, contemporary and art quilters, who span the ability range from novice to professional, come from a wide geographical area that includes NYC, Westchester, Putnam and Rockland Counties in NY, and Fairfield and Litchfield Counties in CT. There are also a few from distant counties and far spread states. Northern Star Quilters’ Guild grew out of two successful Quilt Shows put on for fundraising purposes for American Field Service of Somers, NY, in 1979 and 1980. The obvious interest shown led to the founding of NSQG in June of 1981. An annual Quilt Show became an integral part of Guild activities and a charitable contribution continues but the recipient changes each year by membership vote. For the many intervening years “A World of Quilts” show and our meeting place have remained in the same location in Somers. In 2016 the Show moved on to larger locations and is now held at Purchase College, Purchase, NY. Our meetings have moved to Fox Lane High School in Bedford, NY. We are a not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote interest in, and encourage proficiency and expression in the art of quilting through stimulation of thought, exchange of ideas, mutual assistance and educational opportunities. Nationally known guest speakers and workshops are provided as well as in-house educational programs. We do not meet in July or August. The first weekend in May is reserved for the Quilt Show. We welcome new members to join us at any time with the promise of friendship and sharing that quilters are known for. Contact membership@northernstarquilters.com.
