Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio

Sunday, December 14, 2014
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

After thirty-six years of success the world over, including many award-winning recordings and newly commissioned works, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio continues to dazzle audiences and critics alike with its performances.  As one of the only long-lived ensembles with all of its original members, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio balances the careers of three internationally-acclaimed soloists while making annual appearances at many of the world’s major concert halls, commissioning spectacular new works, and maintaining an active recording agenda.

Musical America named the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio the “Ensemble of the Year” for 2002. The 2003-04 season was their first as “Chamber Ensemble in Residence” at the Kennedy Center, an honor which has continued to thrill the Trio throughout subsequent seasons. They were also awarded the first annual “Samuel Sanders Collaborative Artists Award” (2002) by the Foundation for Recorded Music as well as in 2011. The steady stream of honors marks the high esteem that the classical music field holds for the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio.

Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson both serve on the esteemed instrumental and chamber music faculty at The Cleveland Institute of Music, where they began teaching in 2012. Previously, both Mr. Laredo and Ms. Robinson were professors at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music since 2005, while Joseph Kalichstein continues as a long-revered teacher at the Juilliard School of Music.

The Trio will open with the ‘hint of jazz’ 2012 Previn Piano Trio No. 2  which was commissioned by this ensemble, followed by Dvorak’s Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 26 and closing this wonderful concert will be Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50. In its intimate setting, Congregation Emanu-El is a venue that provides exceptional acoustics and one that is perfectly matched for experiencing live chamber music as it was meant to be. All attendees are invited (at no charge) to a post concert wine and cheese reception with the musicians.

The Westchester Chamber Music Society is celebrating its 64th season in 2014-2015. Led by Dr. Caroline Bauman, a pediatrician and long-time Rye resident who has been president of the society for the past 30 years, The Westchester Chamber Music Society has been committed to bringing first-rate artists to Westchester, which included the Tokyo String Quartet in their Westchester premiere and renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Long time subscribers are joined by new members and many other guests to enjoy the very personal experience of performance that chamber music provides. The Westchester Chamber Music Society concerts are presented on Sunday afternoons at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester in Rye, whose celebrated acoustics make it a desirable venue for internationally renowned musicians as well as emerging artists. The Society presents five concerts a year, three in the fall and two in the spring. After each concert, audience members are invited at no charge to a reception at which they can meet and speak with the musicians. “We are thrilled to provide unique occasions for Westchester residents and other attendees to connect with these very talented performers. People can ask questions about the pieces, share their thoughts or simply say hello. It is a very special opportunity for them to socialize with the musicians and others who share their love and appreciation of the music.” said Dr. Bauman.
