Ed Young: Bird & Diz – Illusrations from Creative Process to Finished Book

Award winning illustrator Ed Young’s newest work, “Bird & Diz”, explores the creative collaboration between jazz legends John “Dizzy” Gillespie and Charlie “Bird” Parker. This exhibition provides visitors with a glimpse into Young’s own creative process. The work is inspired by the rhythmic abstract tone and richly colored sound of these two giants of jazz. “Bird & Diz” integrates Young’s expressive illustrations with the playful, rhythmic narrative by acclaimed biographer Gary Golio.

Ed Young is the illustrator of more than eighty books for children, seventeen of which he has also written. Among his books is the Caldecott Medal winner Lon Po Po, which he both wrote and illustrated. He says that his work is inspired by the philosophy of Chinese painting. He lives in Westchester County, New York.

This exhibition will run from June 13-August 1, 2015 on Monday-Thursday from 9:OO AM-8:OO PM, on Friday 9:00 AM-6:00 PM, on Saturday 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM, and on Sunday 1:00 PM-5:00 PM.

A talk by author Gary Golio is scheduled for June 20, 2015 at 4:30 PM at the library.

This event is part of ARTSEE, a festival showcasing new works of art throughout Westchester County in celebration of ArtsWestchester’s 50th anniversary.
