Film Screening: “THINGS TO COME” – starring Isabelle Huppert

THINGS TO COME – Film Screening Presented by the Irvington Town Hall Theater

Isabelle Huppert, described by by New York Times movie critic A.O. Scott as “the world’s greatest actress,” stars in this wistful, funny drama by French director Mia Hansen-Love which premiered to rave reviews in December, 2016.

Huppert plays Nathalie, a Parisian philosophy teacher whose husband leaves her for a younger woman, whose mother dies, whose publisher won’t reissue her book — and yet finds unexpected freedom in all of these losses.

Huppert won several nominations and awards for her outstanding performance in the film, including the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress, New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress, and the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Actress of the Year.

Things to Come was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival.  At Berlin, Hansen-Løve won the Silver Bear for Best Director.

“Huppert is extraordinary; she reveals everything even when you think she’s showing nothing — and she’s the perfect actress, right now, for Hansen-Løve’s fine-grained perceptiveness.”  – Stephanie Zacharek, Time

“Isabelle Huppert is note-perfect… [Her] warm, wry performance as an academic facing a crisis at home powers Mia Hansen-Løve’s intimate, intellectual film.” – Mark Kermode, The Guardian
