Fargo: Screening and Q&A

Join us for a screening of Fargo, followed by a Q&A and book event with Todd Melby, author of A Lot Can Happen in the Middle of Nowhere: The Untold Story of the Making of Fargo.

William H. Macy (Boogie Nights) plays a miserable car salesman in desperate financial trouble who hires two small-time criminals (Steve Buscemi, Reservoir Dogs, and Peter Stormare, The Big Lebowski) to kidnap his own wife. The ransom-as-income scheme collapses when the crooks shoot a state trooper and two innocent bystanders, drawing the local police chief (Frances McDormand, Blood Simple) into her first homicide investigation. Featuring excellent performances, a brilliant script, and the Coens’ trademark brand of dark comedy, Fargo quickly reminds you why it’s one of the best films of the 1990s.

A Lot Can Happen in the Middle of Nowhere: The Untold Story of the Making of Fargo is the true story of the Coen Brothers’ epic film of murder, mayhem, and malfeasance on the frozen landscapes of Minneapolis and North Dakota, offering an inside look into what Roger Ebert called “one of the best films I’ve ever seen.” The book includes a foreword by William H. Macy and twenty behind-the-scenes photographs.

The Village Bookstore will have books available for sale at the event.
