Farewell Herr Schwarz

In 1945, after the war’s end, sister and brother Michla and Feiv’ke Schwarz didn’t meet in £ódz as they had planned. Instead, she migrated to Israel and started a family, and he returned to Germany, changed his name, and began a new life. Their decisions haunt their children and compel their grandchildren, including filmmaker Yael Reuveny, to explore their family history and reconsider their own identities.

Q&A April 29, 7:30: Filmmaker Yael Reuveny with Bruni Burres, Sigal Yehuda and JBFC Founder Steve Apkon.
Producer Bruni Burres is senior consultant to the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and Fund. Sigal Yehuda is director of Greenhouse Film Centre, a development program for documentary filmmakers from the Middle East and North Africa, which helped make the production of Farewell Herr Schwarz possible. Documentary filmmaker Yael Reuveny began this project in the 2009 Greenhouse Program, which subsequently won Best Documentary at the Haifa International Film Festival.
