Big dams, once seen with pride as engineering wonders, are increasingly viewed as barriers to the health of our rivers. Where dams come down, rivers spring back to life, giving salmon and other fish renewed access to primeval spawning grounds. With majestic cinematography, DamNation reveals huge landscapes altered by dams—but it also sheds light on a shift in values: from the conquest of the natural world to knowing ourselves as part of nature.
