Cabaret on the Hudson (Winter): Holiday-Themed Season Premiere

The Irvington Town Hall Theater (ITHT) kicks off the third season of its highly acclaimed Cabaret on the Hudson Series with a holiday-themed program on Sunday, December 11th at 3:00 pm.  A collaboration of ITHT and NiCori Studios and Productions, this intimate series allows the audience and performer to engage in a musical conversation.  Multi-award-nominated cabaret singer Corinna Sowers Adler hosts the series, bringing renowned cabaret performers to the ITHT stage where they perform samplings of their New York City cabaret shows.  Many of these artists have performed in New York City venues such as 54 BELOW, the Oak Room at the Algonquin, Birdland, Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, Iridium, the Metropolitan Room, and Jazz at Lincoln Center — to name a few.

Sowers Adler will open the December 11th holiday event with several songs, followed by acts from three beloved cabaret artists:

Natalie Arneson won the 2016 “Best Female Debut” award from the Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets for her show “Mama Drama.”  She appears regularly at 54 Below in their “Sondheim Unplugged” series.  Her current show, “I Love Being Here With You,” with pianist Matt Baker, celebrates the original material of singer/songwriter Peggy Lee.

Australian born jazz pianist/vocalist Matt Baker has performed at jazz festivals, clubs, and concert halls in Australia, Europe, the United States, and the Pacific Rim.  Baker recorded his fifth album Almost Blue (via JazzElm Music) with producer Matt Pierson, released in June 2016.  His previous album, Underground, received rave reviews in DownbeatJazz Times and Jazz Wise UK, and reached #26 on the US JazzWeek charts.  Baker was an award winner in the 2003 Montreux International Solo Jazz Piano competition and a semi-finalist in 2004 and 2005.  A student of Taylor Eigsti’s since moving to New York, he recounts watching Oscar Peterson perform live an entire week as one of his greatest influences.  Baker has also studied with Mulgrew Miller, Benny Green, Fred Hersch, Aaron Goldberg, Jacky Terrasson, James Williams, Ralph Sutton and Ella Fitzgerald’s life-long accompanist Paul Smith.  (For more information about Matt Baker, visit: www.mattbaker.com.au.)

Seven-time MAC award winner Natalie Douglas is also a Nightlife, Backstage Bistro, 2014 Margaret Whiting Award, and 2016 Donald F. Smith award winner.  She has brought her concerts, workshops, and master classes to audiences and students across the United States, Europe and South America.  Her recent NYC performances have included Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Café Carlyle, Town Hall, and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room and Rose Hall.  Internationally, Douglas has performed in Montenegro, Greece, Italy, Spain, Corsica, Puerto Vallarta, London, Buenos Aires, Cancun, Turkey, Mazatlan, Belize, and Germany.  (For more information about Natalie Douglas, visit: www.nataliedouglas.com.)

Cabaret on the Hudson series host Sowers Adler also hosts the Music at the Mansion series and recently premiered her show “Something Beautiful” at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room.  She has been nominated as “Best Host of a Variety Show” and “Best Female Vocalist” for the 2012 and 2014 Broadway World Cabaret Awards as well as for an Excellence in Theater Education TONY Award.  She was a featured soloist at the 25th Annual New York Cabaret Convention held in the Rose Theater of Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2014, and has toured and performed her solo cabaret shows — Stories, By Request, Songs From the Heart and Let Me Sing and I’m Happy — at venues in New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida.
Audiences are invited to arrive in Irvington early to make it a true holiday experience by visiting one of the many local restaurants for a pre-show lunch (or post-show dinner).
