A Choreography Showcase


A Choreography Showcase brings together emerging and established professional choreographers and artists along with pre-professional dancers from across the region showing a new work in a variety of  dance styles.  Held at The Emelin Theatre, in the vibrant town of Mamaroneck, NY. The post-performance  Q&A  is a great opportunity for choreographers, dancers and audience members to share  feedback and insights into  both the choreographic process and audience perception of the work.

Doron Perk will show “The Pedestrian Ballet” which explores the merge of ballet steps and free-form movement inspired by jazz.   Doron came to the US from Israel as a dancer/associate director of ZviDance and listed in 2016’s Dance Magazine best  performer list.  Doron is currently a nominee for a Bessie Award for Choreography.

“The Hancock Jig”,  choreographed by Alexandra Williamson a solo commissioned created on location in Alaska is inspired by the Hancock Jig machine and the Irish immigrant history of the area;  the work incorporates traditional Irish dance and is to a score composed and will be played live by Alaska native Caitlin Warbelow.

Westchester native Jessica DiMauro, Steffi Nossen Artistic Director and  producer of the event  will show a new duet choreographed with Gierre Godley for premiere at the Showcase.

Also seen will be “Banter” a duet by Neville Dance Theater founder Brenda R. Neville who brings theatrical innovations to contemporary ballet and hailed as “compelling”, “imaginative” and “a pure delight” by critics and audience members.

 

Hysterika Jazz Dance founder and artistic director Barbara Angeline will show “In Pieces: A Vaudeville Review” for eight dancers inspired by the contributions of Aida Overton Walker who thwarted stereotypes about Black female stage performers. The company is dedicated to to expanding the legacy of jazz dance as a rich, powerful, historical American art form.

The Steffi Nossen Dance Company will show “Brink” dancers choreographed by Janice Rosario a choreographer and dance educator who “create(s) spaces where we can see each other past the divide to contribute to making an ever more inclusive community.”
Also on the showcase will be Sera Kramer ‘s “I have Always Been Here” and five two dance Company.
