APP

Best of Film Series/ITHT
Thu, May 15, 2014 – 8:00pm
We are among a select group of theaters showing a movie that’s coming out in May and which encourages audiences to keep their cell phones on during the film.
APP, a Dutch thriller, utilizes technology seemingly along the lines of Shazam, meaning audiences members’ cell phones sync up with the movie by audio recognition, which then allows their cell phone to be a second screen, vibrating and revealing complimentary bits of footage or info at key moments and twists in the film. The concept is pretty darn cool. And definitely exciting.
To allow this synchronicity between film and smart phone audiences must download an app called IRIS, which is the app that hijacks the protagonist’s phone, and life.  Imagine a low-budget cyber-horror version of Oscar nominee “Her”.  Not really, but sort of.
