Modern technology. Add the recent pandemic and public discussion on the contemporary workplace can focus on the remote worker, the four-day workweek and the ubiquitous Zoom meeting place. Social media can be a vicarious life connection replacing direct human interaction.

All this ignores and makes no consideration of the service industry and workers who don’t report to offices.

Andrew Courtney’s portrait photography reveals those artisans and others whose life passions require their working hands.

The exhibition of 46 portraits are of people from the wider Hudson Valley whose hands are their primary work and pleasure tool.
Visitors will see a:

  • Parkinsons ping-pong champ
  • Stone wall builder
  • Hand-gesture Indian dancer
  • Wheelchair basketball player, and many others
  • Wall-mounted work will include a flat panel TV looped film of those subjects who make sound including the silence of an ASL interpreter

All the exhibited portraits are of people from the wider Hudson Valley whose hands are their primary work and pleasure tool.
