Make Your Own Altar- HandBuilding Pottery Workshop
WomansWork.Art is having a two day “Make Your Own Altar” handbuilding pottery workshop June 11th and July 8th from 1:00pm-3:00pm taught by artist and educator Ruth Irving.
This listing is for the full 4-hour workshop split into 2 hours each day, June 11th and July 8th.
Seating is limited to 12 people. Young person’s ages 6-16 need to be accompanied by a participating adult to attend.
Workshop:
Cost: $150 for a 4-hour workshop. Fee includes all materials, tools and firing fees.
Location: WomensWork.Art- 4 South Clinton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601
Pickup: Ruth will take your finished piece to her studio to dry and fire twice after the last workshop. This takes around 7-9 weeks. When your altar is ready, you will receive an email to come by the gallery to pick it up!
Activity Breakdown:
May 21st: We will go over design concepts and cover the basics of handbuilding you will need to know to build your altar. No prior experience with clay is necessary. This day will be dedicated to building!
June 11th: We will learn about and paint with underglazes. This day is dedicated to painting!

About the instructor: Ruth Irving is a mixed media sculptor and teacher based out of Westchester, New York. She has been working with clay for over 7 years and teaches ceramics from her studio in Yonkers and at various locations. Her recent body of work revolves around plant life and cells with a focus on mushrooms.

Requests to use workshop payment as credits toward a different class or workshop at Ruth Irving Studio must be emailed to [email protected]. Credits expire 90 days after original purchase.
