When burlesque dancer Sugarpuss O’Shea (Barbara Stanwyck) goes on the run from the police who are seeking out her gangster boyfriend (Dana Andrews), she finds the perfect hiding spot in a house where eight stuffy professors are compiling an encyclopedia. Under the guise that she’s helping Prof. Bertram Potts (Gary Cooper) write an article on slang, she hopes to lay low until the heat dies down.
