“Classy & Sassy: A Lena Horne Tribute”

“Classy & Sassy: A Lena Horne Tribute” created by and starring Julia Breanetta Simpson pays homage to the legendary Lena Horne. Ms. Horne was an iconic singer, dancer, actress, and political and Civil Rights activist. Her career which spanned the better part of 70 years began at the age of 16 in the chorus line at the world-famous Cotton Club. She appeared in such musical films as Stormy Weather and Cabin in the Sky, and lit up the Broadway stage in the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music.

“Classy & Sassy” explores the music that Ms. Horne said was “first my refuge and then my salvation.” “Classy & Sassy” honors and celebrates Ms. Horne’s inspiring life and enduring career. Ms. Simpson is joined by a world class band led by Mario E. Sprouse on piano. With Sly Scott (Woodwinds), Tony Lewis (Drums/Percussion) and Hilliard Greene (Bassist).
